My learning Portfolio!

My experiences with multimedia and online learning

Due to the pandemic, I have been studying online for more than a year. And zoom is my main class software. Zoom is very convenient to use, and students can easily interact with teachers and classmates. Teachers can also conveniently attend classes and impart knowledge. Zoom can also divide into groups, allowing students to conduct group discussions to deepen their understanding in class. In this way, I gained knowledge from the exchanges with teachers and classmates. There are many advantages of online learning. For example, online learning is convenient. Some courses have record lectures, and when you get confused about some points, you can watch these videos repeatedly to understand. In addition to that, online learning can enable people to save time. When you are in class, the teacher may repeat some problems you already know in order to take care of all the students. In online learning, you can skip the questions you already know and focus on the ones you don’t know. This saves a lot of time. However, there are also disadvantages to online learning. Online learning can not better communicate with teachers, lacks face-to-face practical operation skills. Online learning content is basically completed alone, there is a partial lack of interpersonal communication. Moreover, online learning is even more lacking in interaction, unable to achieve interactive learning between students, and the mastery will not be very comprehensive.

Finally, I look forward to learning to use more multimedia for interaction to help my future study.

After reading your post, I quite agree with the advantages of multimedia learning you mentioned. The epidemic has indeed had a great impact on our daily learning. Without the same multimedia as zoom, our learning efficiency will become very low. The recorded video that can be watched at any time can really facilitate students’ learning and review. In addition, I learned about the shortcomings of multimedia learning from your post. It “lacks face-to-face practical operation skills.” My chemistry course needs experiments. Unfortunately, online learning can not meet this demand. I can only use simulation tools, but it is very different from real operations. Moreover, I wonder whether you prefer multimedia learning or traditional learning?

      Hi Yuyu,
I think multimedia learning and traditional offline learning have their own advantages. I hope that we can combine multimedia learning with traditional learning in our future studies. For example, we can go to school for classes that require experimentation, and for classes that need to search for information on the Internet, we can learn through multimedia.

Haoran, I have read your whole blog and I think your writing is pretty solid. In the article, you have written both side of the online experience of taking remote courses whereas you have also combined your studying experience in the past year. However, one more thing I noticed that was your citation thing. I would recommend you to have some outer materials to support your brilliant ideas.

      Hi Peterkim,
In “top 300 tools for learning 2021”, I found that zoom is the second-ranked learning tool in 2021. This shows that due to the impact of the pandemic, zoom has become the mainstream as a learning tool. Most people study online through zoom, which brings convenience to people.
